The Face Of The Exile

The Face of the Exiled is a documentary series taken in the political refugee center in Ås, Norway and at that moment there were around 40.000 people seeking political asylum. During Calderon’s first year in Norway she met many political refugees, they were her classmates at the Norwegian course. During this period (one and half year), she got to know them, and understood the complexity of their situation. 

Calderon wants to show how political refugees are dealing with everyday life, in a country which is protecting their life, but at the same time they don’t belong and they can’t understand the culture, and their presence is affected by the nostalgia and memories of the life they left behind as they try to reproduce the lives they once knew in this new environment.
